Langley and Sobczak Schell recognized by Military Affairs Committee

Each year Appalachian's Military Affairs Committee (MAC) recognizes a student and a staff or faculty member who have provided exemplary service to and/or support of military affiliated students.  For the 2021/2022 academic year, the two recipients are very near and dear to Student Veteran Services.

Ms. Caitlin Langley, a student employee in Student Veteran Services (SVS), was selected for the "Student" award.  Caitlin goes above and beyond her regular responsibilties to ensure the Student Veteran Resource Center (SVRC) operates smoothly.  She also stepped up during a staffing shortage, taking on additional duties and responsibilities, to support the administration of Veterans Affairs Education Benefits.  Cailtin works tirelessly to support her fellow student veterans and military affiliated students.  She currently serves as the President of the Student Veterans Association, after serving as Secretary last year.  Caitlin is an immense asset to SVS, and we are thrilled she was selected for the MAC Award.

On the faculty/staff side, Mrs. Emma Sobczak Schell, received the honors.  Emma, our special populations librarian, conducts office hours in the SVRC on a weekly basis.  She also makes herself available remotely, often after hours, to provide support and encouragement to our military affiliated students.  She always volunteers to support events and activities conducted by SVS and the SVA, even going so far as attending the Student Veterans of America National Conference with our student veterans in January 2022.  Emma is an invaluable asset to Appalachian, and we couldn't be happier she earned the MAC award!.
